Review of the film "Human Anger". Guy Richie and Jason Steetem again
Jason Stetyem's career went along an unusual trajectory. He began his path to a large screen simultaneously with Guy Richie in his debut picture "Cards, money, two trunks". There, yesterday's swimmer of the British team appeared in the image of a charming and acute in the language of the rogue. The same role he got into "Big Kush" , where the still novice actor was still well held in the frame with already upbringing Brad Pitt. But then the stethema overtaken "Carrier" , then "Adrenalin" , And now, in the middle of the zero, the Englishman is called the successor of Van-Damm and Sigal, and their paths with Richie finally diverge after anyone not understood "Revolver". One goes to conquer Hollywood, the other – militants of category b. Richie is constantly experimenting with genres, and Steetem is removed even by Uwe Ball, everywhere playing the same harsh man. But in the early 2020s, Richi and Staytem finally reunite for a joint project. Both won their names, both practically at the peak of form. The new collaboration should be a definite hit.
But no. "Human anger" strongly risks leaving a wide audience in bewilderment.
In Los Angeles, a daring robbery of the van with money occurs. The raid passes dirty: both collectors and random witness, young guy were killed. Soon after, a certain Harry is arranged in the collection service, to whom colleagues immediately give out the nickname "Eich". He has a pure dossier and excellent reviews from a security agency, but he is hardly similar to a simple hard worker: a prickly gaze painfully. It soon becomes clear that Eich, unlike other collectors, is not only not afraid of robbers, but he himself is looking for a meeting with them.
Formally “human anger” – a remake of French "Collector" 2004, but except that they are related. Nicolas Bookthus removed a traction, uncomfortable drama about social inequality and futility of revenge. Her hero was a simple man who tried to survive a terrible grief. He did not have a clear plan or military skills – only pain. But Guy Richie puts in the place of a little man a walking murder car.
It’s nice to see Josh Hartnetta after a long break, but he got an exceptionally annoying character
Jason Steetem in the "Anger of the Human" brutal to comic. He shoots like Clint Eastwood, fights like Bruce Lee, pronounces ready -made quotes for kids and with only a movement of the eyebrow with the goosebumps of any ill -wisher. All the few jokes of the film are built just around its unreal coolness. Aich is a rock that all the waves are broken about, and the viewer should definitely not worry about him.
According to a long tradition, the border between the main character and the secondary characters at Richie Veasant – each has its own party, its place in the plot kaleidoscope. The director refuses the linearity of the “collector” in favor of his favorite narrative technique: the same events are shown from different points of view. In this case, there is a look of Aich, the gaze of his colleagues and, finally, the look of the raids themselves. This, by the way, is another important difference from the French source – the personalities of the robbers did not matter in it, because the people in masks were, by and large, only the circumstance. Richie looks under the masks. True, does not find anything remarkable there.
There are six people in the gang of robbers, but two are remembered from them from strength
Films about robbery are a separate genre in which everything is held on a famously twisted plan and on charisma of those who, in fact, are going to business. "Human anger" does not shine either to one or the other. On the one hand, they are trying to immerse us in the life of the bandits, to show that they pushed them to mortal risk. But in the end, everything rests Kaiser Slots Casino on the cliche that has filled the soreness "We are not like that – such life". None of them are sorry, let only the character of Scott Eastwood deserved your bullet. And the tricky plan of robbers eventually turns out to be more straightforward.
The other side of the conflict is the collectors, who represent as involuntary participants in the war of Aych with the bandits, honest hard workers who simply do very stressful work. They are played by the most venerable actors in the film: Star "Mind Hunter" Holt McCallani, who returned to the big movie, Josh Hartnett and Eddie Marsan from last year "Gentlemen". But getting attached to them is also especially impossible. Eich himself does not show any emotions to colleagues, because for him they are either a means of achieving a goal or obstacle on the way. Only sometimes the film makes timid attempts to humanize Chop workers. So with a production drama, too, does not work out.
But damn them, with genre flirting, we will leave it to the French. How are you with the main thing – with a criminal action movie? Also ambiguous. With all the emphasized steepness of Aich, in all two hours of the film, he shows his incredible skills only a couple of times. Both scenes are set without delights, but dynamic, and closer to the finale even with the introduct of Sasaspens. However, the rest of the time that Jason Steatem spends on the screen, we are invited to watch how he, frowed, is asking for someone to ask or puts in place. Of course, this spectacle also fascinates, but the fans of the "adrenaline" will definitely leave inconspicuously.
It would seem that the conclusions suggest, because in any cinematic genre that can be tried on it, the “human anger” manifests itself quite mediocre. However, there is an angle from which the film is revealed much more fully: Gai Richie shot a tragedy. But if the “collector” was a tragedy of realistic, landed, then “human anger” is an opera tragedy, almost antique. This is indicated by the high -pairing name, and engravings with formidable angels on opening credits, and the soundtrack of Christopher Bensted, in which the same oppressive motive goes through the entire film, occasionally interrupting Johnny Kash's songs. Los Angeles is completely different from its usual Hollywood version: instead of the sun-filled with California, we see a cold city of concrete, in which nothing good happens to anyone. Here, tired and greedy little people torment each other, decide on transactions with conscience, make a small and great evil, while fate itself with Jason Staitem’s stone face without apparent effort breaks their worthless lives. There is its own harsh poetry.
After returning to the roots in the "gentlemen", Gai Richie shot a completely atypical movie for himself. It has almost no humor and its branded clip installation, but there is a gloomy pathos, very mundane violence and a Staytem, in which there certainly did not have a trace of Turkish from the Great Sit. “Human anger” is not as psychedelic as a “revolver”, but it may well fall into the same category of the most controversial work of the director. For some, he will become a passing and boring action movie, for others-modern classics. But this is hardly the film that was expected from Richie and Staitem after fifteen years.
