Cost Management

Cost management, often called Quantity Surveying, is the act of planning and regulating the budget of a project.  At its most basic function, the purpose of cost management is to ensure that a project stays on track in terms of the actual spending against the project budget.

Cost management has an impact on all phases of a project, including planning and design, estimating, materials and contractors, change orders and the completed structure.  Effective management of cost also helps the various stakeholders in being proactive, efficient, and precise when estimating and executing a proposed budget.

Essentially, in order to ensure effective cost management, it is important to put the right processes in place to help deliver a construction project that is completed on time and under budget.

At The OM Group, we understand that tracking cost and monitoring risk whilst staying on budget can be one of the biggest hurdles in any construction project.  Finding solutions to execute cost management efficiently makes a significant difference in completing a project on time and within budget.

Bills of Quantities

Working with experienced Quantity Surveyors, allows us to provide accurate and detailed Bills of Quantities for contractors bidding on projects to help them in submitting competitive tenders for their projects.

Our professional partners use software that provides both Bills of Quantities and comprehensive Estimates for contractors, as well as providing a fully integrated approach to the preparation and use of documents for the procurement and control of construction projects.

Valuations and Final Accounts

Our Quantity Surveyor partners carry out work-in-progress appraisals on behalf of our clients,  or when acting on behalf of the contractor, in order to facilitate the stage payments as part of the project contract. This involves the actual measurement of the work on the site as well as the delivery of goods.

This is an essential function of the cost management solution, which ensures that the construction works completed on site are accurately valued and costs controlled.  These valuations during the lifecycle of the project are an important part of the process to ensure that the project can be completed within the construction budget.

Following the completion of the project, the final accounts can be prepared in the manner that best suits the project.  The agreement of the final account is a key part of the Quantity Surveyors role on the project.
